WHATWhen the visitor enters the gallery they see images of hands fading in and out of a piece of computer generated stone on a video monitor. On the wall behind this is projected a field of blue sky. In between the slide projection and the video monitor is a viewing station with a set of virtual reality glasses. When the visitor puts these on they can see through small semi-transparent monitors which show images of a digital world that seem to float in front of the slide projection. These images are collages of landscape and media images and abstract bits.
WHY
The work explores how images and people seem to float by, out of reach in so much of life because the experience of them has been mediated by technology. The work also attempts to address some of the problems of how to show interactive and computer based work in a gallery setting by the addition of more elements to gallery than just a computer screen and making the interactive components of the exhibition as easy to use as possible.
