Sort of wierd, to be writing up this stuff straight at the end of day because normally I need a abit more time to think this thur but I think I've got the key messages in my head.
Client centred approaches
The key messages for me where
-listen and try to understand the students and build the experiences around what the students need.
- make the projects and learning experience suit what the students are interested in and engaged by
- one of the systems and ways of listening was doing learning plans.
- don't allow the facilities etc to define the learning experience .
- you can cut down your load by not giving to many learning choices.
- tracking student progress can be as simple as discussions at the end of a project to review progress, or they could be webCT quiz's
Some of questions to ask are
Who are students ?
What is their context ?
What do they need ?
What are we doing now for them ?
How could we cater for their needs better?
This reminder me of basic marketing.
Blended Learning Session
It didn't quite feel like we had enough time to do this. But Graeme's blending learning model looks great, I love the way it pushes the notion of informal learning.
What I'm not so sure about is the separation between understanding the client and learning design/eg blend learning approaches, or maybe that was because we didn't have enough time.
What I like do as a first step is build a excel tool that intergates more of the options. Maybe part of what I could work towards in my instructional design studies is a tool for learning design in my context.
Also made some links with some the areas that are using learning plans, and a few other toolboxes users and found out about the "teaching network" IT is working on.
